Carbon dichloride Applications
- Perchloroethylene is primarily used as a solvent in the dry cleaning industry. It effectively dissolves grease, dirt, and wax on clothing without shrinking or discoloring most fabrics. However, due to safety and environmental concerns, many dry cleaners are gradually switching to alternative solvents.
- It is an important raw material for the synthesis of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Polyvinyl chloride is an important material widely used in plastic products, such as pipes, wire and cable insulation, flooring, window frames, etc. Its preparation process requires tetrachloroethylene as a monomer.
- It is used as an organic solvent and can be used for paint removal, cleaning metal surfaces, dissolution operations in laboratories, and dissolution and extraction processes in other chemical processes.
- It is used to manufacture thermal paper, inks, dyes, refrigerants, fire suppressants, etc.
- It is a volatile organic compound, and its waste and exhaust gas need to be properly handled to avoid pollution to the environment.
