Molecular Formula: C6H6O

Molecular Weight: 94.11

CAS NO.: 108-95-2

EINECS: 203-632-7

Density: 1.1±0.1 g/cm3

Boiling point: 181.8±0.0 °C at 760 mmHg

Melting point: 40-42 °C(lit.)

Flashing point: 79.4±0.0 °C

Appearance: Colorless or white crystal, with a special odor. It turns pink or even red in air and light.

Solubility: Slightly soluble in cold water; highly miscible in ethanol, ether, chloroform, and glycerol.

Properties: Colorless needle-shaped crystals or white crystals with a special odor. Very dilute solutions have a sweet taste. Impure products turn pale red or red under the action of light and air, and change color faster when exposed to alkali. Flammable, highly corrosive, and toxic. Almost insoluble in petroleum ether, the pH value of aqueous solution is about 6.0.

Preparation Method: There are two main methods: sulfonation method and cumene method. The sulfonation method uses benzene as raw material, sulfonates with sulfuric acid to generate benzenesulfonic acid, neutralizes with sulfurous acid, and then uses caustic soda for alkaline fusion, and then obtains it through sulfonation and vacuum distillation. The cumene method is that propylene and benzene are reacted with aluminum chloride catalyst to generate cumene, cumene is oxidized to generate cumene hydroperoxide, and then decomposed with sulfuric acid to obtain Benzenol and acetone.

Package: Standard delivery in 200kg galvanized iron barrels or high-capacity IBC tanks

Storage: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Avoid sunlight. The warehouse temperature should not exceed 35℃ and the relative humidity should not exceed 80%. The package should be sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, alkalis, and edible chemicals. Do not store them together. Equip with appropriate types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with appropriate materials to contain leaks.

Safety Protection: Contact with skin can cause poisoning. When the skin contacts phenol aqueous solution or pure phenol, it is quickly irritated and produces local anesthesia, which then turns into ulcers. Generally, acute poisoning causes weakness, dizziness, tinnitus, and sweating. It can damage the kidneys in the body. Equipment at the production site should be sealed. Operators should wear protective equipment.

About Us: With over many years as a certified Phenol manufacturer, we combine innovation with stringent production standards to deliver high-performance product.

Benzenol Applications

Our high-purity Benzenol is a vital intermediate for:

  • Resin Production: Essential for manufacturing Phenolic resins, Bisphenol A, and polycarbonate plastics.
  • Chemical Synthesis: Acts as a precursor for Salicylic Acid, Phenolphthalein, and Picric Acid.
  • Industrial Coatings: Widely used as a chemical intermediate in paints, wood preservatives, and fungicides.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Used in the production of analgesics and various antiseptic formulations.
Professional Guide to Phenol CAS 108-95-2

Q1: What is the purity level of your Phenol, and how is it tested?

A: Our technical-grade Phenol maintains a high purity of ≥ 99.8%. We utilize Gas Chromatography (GC) and crystallization point analysis for every batch to ensure it meets stringent industrial and pharmaceutical intermediate standards.

Q2: Why does Phenol change color to pink or red over time?

A: Phenol is highly sensitive to light and oxygen. When exposed to air or UV light, it undergoes slow oxidation, forming quinones which give the crystals a pinkish or reddish tint. This is a natural characteristic and can be minimized by storing the product in opaque, sealed containers under an inert gas blanket.

Q3: What are the recommended storage conditions for bulk Phenol?

A: Phenol should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. It is critical to keep it away from open flames, heat sources, and strong oxidants. Due to its melting point (40.85°C), it may solidify in cooler climates; therefore, storage tanks may require heating systems if liquid handling is necessary.

Q4: Is your Phenol suitable for resin manufacturing?

A: Yes, our Phenol is specifically optimized as a core raw material for the production of Phenolic Resins, Bisphenol A, and Polycarbonates. Its low moisture content (≤ 0.08%) and high purity ensure stable reaction rates and high-quality polymer end-products.

Q5: What safety precautions should be taken during unloading?

A: Phenol is toxic and corrosive to the skin. Operators must wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective goggles, and acid-proof clothing. In case of skin contact, immediately wash with a large amount of polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution or water and seek medical attention.
